Looking Back: How has digital marketing evolved since the first dmexco in 2009?
Sunday, 07 March 2021
Glance back to the first Dmexco Conference and you’ll notice a lot has changed. The world of digital marketing and advertising has continued to evolve and we now live in what can be considered a truly mobile world.
Would you believe there are more than seven billion mobile devices in the world today and that said devices now outnumber us humans? Oh and they’re multiplying five times faster than we are, according to boffins at the GSMA.
Yet, back in 2009 no-one had ever heard of Snapchat and it would be October 2010 until we saw the launch of Instagram even though Twitter was starting to give us a sense of where things might go with real time social media.
Fast forward to today and video accounts for over 70% of all internet traffic, increasing conversion rates by up to 80%, as White Label Media’s MD, Mark Dye, points out in a recent blog post on Campaign. Citing Forrester analyst, James McQuivey, he suggests that if a picture is worth a thousand words, then video could be worth up to 1.8m.
Throw in the power of some 1.7bn active Facebook users in 2016 and you have the perfect platform for brands that want to create memorable stories and experiences to be shared," adds Dye.
